Surrogate mom vs parents?

This is a question that has been curious to me for a long time. I mean no offense to anyone asking this. But I've seen cases where a couple will pay a surrogate mom to conceive their child, everything from cost of living to medical bills, but when times comes the surrogate mom sometimes has other thoughts and decides to keep the child. My question is, in your opinion, do you think the surrogate mom should have any rights over the child when the parents have paid for everything and the forms are cleared through?

No, especially if it's not her biological child or only half so. If I was using a surrogate I'd have legal documents signed. If she disobeyed them and tried to keep the baby I'm sure it would be considered kidnapping

Nope. She made an informed decision and it's someone else's child. It does sound harsh but I say that's just tough, the surrogate knew what they were getting themselves into and it's going to be so hard for the biological parents too

No. If that child is not hers biologically (besides obviously sharing the same blood) she has no ties to that child. If you do not think you can handle going through with it mentally, you should not get yourself into that situation. I could not imagine how heartbreaking it would be for the biological parents if someone did this. Plus, I'm pretty sure the contract prevents this from happening so it's really not possible.

Nope. She knew what she was getting into and was fully paid for by a couple to have their child. If it isn't her egg, it isn't her baby. If it was her egg, she should have to pay back the thousands.

Hard to say. Its in the womans body for 9 months, she has all the symptoms and does the delivery. But if the other woman uses her eggs and SOs sperm its her baby too. If they sogn legal documents and the carrier knows whats happening she shouldnt be able to keep it. But if she does the other couple could sue.

I actually think it's illegal where I live for a surrogate mother to be compensated for her services beyond reimbursement of medical expenses.

I think it's a tough issue. Obviously a surrogate mother goes in knowing that it's not her child, but I don't doubt that they feel a connection to the foetus. I'm sure it'd be quite weird to carry to term, give birth and never see the baby again.

I don't have much thoughts on it, but it seems like an interesting topic.
