Help! Ruined Hair 🙍🏻💇🏻

So on Friday I went to the salon to get my hair colored. I asked for some blonde highlights kind of like an ombré.  I had dyed my hair black about a year ago but hadn't colored it since so they tried to lift the black out it didn't work but they tried to do the highlights anyways. My hair turned out all orange like bright chucky the doll orange! It's also so damaged now and my scalp hurts. I am not going back to that salon to have it fixed. Anyways has this happened to any of you ladies and what did should I do to correct it? Should I wait till the orange fades or just dye it myself again and I don't really have the funds to get it fixed again.  Any advice would be appreciated 😊
