Who's in the wrong?

I was telling my mom about my situation. My boss sold his business and so when I get back from my Mat leave I'll have a new employer. They had a staff meeting to introduce her and to go over changes and I wasn't invited. I asked if I could/should go and the supervisor said it's not necessary and that she will fill me in when I get back (6 months from now). I feel like whether or not I went should have been my decision. Now I have to go in in January and introduce myself...my mom thinks I'm overreacting and that they didn't want to bother me while I'm on Mat leave. But I feel like I should have had the opportunity to go if I wanted to. Who's in the wrong?

It sounds to me like they didn't want you to feel obliged to go knowing you'd be busy as a new mum and weren't due back for a while and didn't want to waste your time? But I agree, it should have been your choice.

I don't feel like anyone is in the wrong. It's not a big deal. If you knew about it you had the choice to go. If they suggested you don't go it was just a suggestion and you could've gone anyway. They were looking out for you is what it sounds like and nothing more.

I don't think either if you are wrong. If I was you, then I'd feel hurt for not being included and wanting it to be my choice. On the other end, your workplace may not want to make the meeting sound like a big deal, because they don't want you to feel bothered. Also, yes you're technically still employed, yet according to their records you are on leave... So having you in the building for a business meeting could cause issues with HR (you should be paid, yet they can't because you're on leave. And if something bizarre were to happen, like if you fell in the building & had to be rushed to ER... It's a workplace injury, yet technically you are on leave & not working). So... I can def see both sides of the situation!!! Buuuuttttt.... I also know how I would feel and I'd be upset. I know that doesn't help much lol...

Uh, neither of them choices? If you're an employee there, regardless of mat leave, you should have been invited to go.

You're mad because you have to introduce yourself to a new person? Lol welcome to most customer service jobs where you do that daily. I personally wouldn't remember you six months from now so wouldn't expect you to show up. Plus who's to say you may change your mind and leave the company? Then you wasted the managers time.
