Down Syndrome test ?

Personally didnt get this test done but im curious on how it works and how accurate is it ??

Well the nuchal ultrasound alone has a high rate of false positives from what I've researched. A lot of people who saw the fluid at a higher number than the normal ended up having completely healthy babies. If you do the genetic testing along with it, it's more accurate because they can see if you are a carrier and give you a probability of your child having it based on the ultrasound and test results together. I had it done for peace of mind.

It is not 100% accurate. All it does is tell you whether the baby has an "abnormal" amount of fluid at the back of the neck. This fluid does not indicate down syndrome is a guarantee, but it can be an indicator. There is a high rate of false positives.

I discussed this with my doctor at each pregnancy and each doctor said the same thing. The blood test only tells you if your baby is at a higher risk. It does not give you 100% positive information. The ultrasound is much more accurate. This time around the doctor told me that after 35 your almost always going to show at risk because your age plays some part in it. I'm 34 so she said if I took the test then they would just do the ultrasound earlier, but that there was a pretty high chance the blood test would show possible complications even if their weren't any. So for me I felt like it would be pointless and might just cause uneccessary worry. I wouldn't have ended the pregnancy no matter what it showed, even if it were more accurate and since 3 different doctors told me it wasn't, I didn't do it. Go for my ultrasound today and I'll find out more information from that then I would have from the blood test.

They took my blood to test the chromosomes. We also found out what we were having at 12 weeks with the same test 😊

All they did to me today is took blood out. I asked if they were doing an ultrasound and she said nope, just blood. Super confused. So I'm calling my ob tomorrow

I get mine done on Jan 12 I'll be about 12 weeks and I'm so worried I just want a completely happy healthy baby 😭😭😭😭
