When should I take an ovulation test? Please help

When exactly should I take an ovulation test? Can I get pregnant even if we bd two days before the day where my fertility is higher? When should I bd? I am getting desperate I feel like in doing everything wrong and maybe that's why its taking 4 years to conceive 😞
