My doctor was very brief when she came into the room, only telling me, "it wasn't looking good." My heart sank to the ground as she told me this. She said my baby wasn't developing correctly and that it most likely has Down syndrome. I was so taken back, I am 22 years old and it had seemed like everything prior to this visit was almost perfect. She explained that the shoulders were larger than expected and there was a cyst on the back of its neck. During my ultrasound I began to faint, and the technicion also had a hard time viewing the baby. She turned me to the side and had done the ultrasound that way. After looking at the ultrasound photos, my doctor suggested terminating the baby but I cannot do that to my child. I have not had a blood test to check gender/Down syndrome because my insurance does not cover it. Does anyone have insight about Down syndrome or the possibility of my baby being okay? I am praying day and night for a miracle.
