my boyfriend doesn't want our son named after him? :(

I will find out what I'm having in two weeks but I have a gut feeling it's a boy. I have girl names picked out but my boyfriend is the 3rd in his family and I really wanted our baby boy to be the 4th, seeing as his dad died and I wanted something special for him. Should I just let it go and choose another name or try to talk to him?

My husband is a Jr and he hates his name and his deadbeat dad. So i gratefully did not even bring it up. 
Try talking to him about it if you are really set on it but be prepared for him to shut down. It's possible that there are feelings about his dad or grandfather that you don't know about. If anything ask him what names he does like and compromise.

Same situation with my husband! He is the 3rd, his father passed away when he was 6. I assumed at the beginning of our relationship that he would want his first son named after him and his dad and grandpa. But he's actually super against it. He hates his name, because everyone in his family has the name, he got the infantile version (in his eyes); the family name is Matthew, his grandpa and father went by Matt, so his family calls him the full Matthew, which he sees as demeaning and insulting. He also says he just doesn't like the name in general, and always makes the comment "what about our other sons, are they just less special then?". I get it, sort of. It's his decision. I would have happily carried on the family tradition with our son, but I have to admit I loved picking our sons name together, and he's very happy with the decision. Let him choose! If it was your family, you'd want a say. It's his family name, it's his choice to keep it or not.

I was thinking of naming my son after my fiancé but he wants his son to have his own identity. So he'll have my fiance's middle name just as he has his father's

If im having a boy i wanna name him after his dad, and he doesnt like the idea either. And there's no changing his mind. Idk. Some men just dont like that stuff. Maybe just give the baby his middle name.

I wanted my son to be named after his father but my husband didnt, and he had valid reasons. He wanted our son to have his own name, but mostly, my husband was bullied really badly by basically everyone because his name is riley and apparently it is more a girl name then a guys, but my husband didn't want our son to go through the same things that he did because of his name. So we are not naming our son riley, we are naming him Aiden :)

Everyone seemed to cover the dislike of the name or of the predecessors.  The reason my husband and his dad choose not to do the junior thing (they both thought about it) was because they wanted their sons to have their own identity.

What they did do is the middle name was their grandfather's first name.  So if we have a boy our sons middle name will be the same as his grandfather's first name. Is a neat little tradition that we are starting.

I AM IN THE OPPOSITE SITUATION I DO NOT WANT TO NAME MY SON JUNIOR BUT MY SO WILL NOT HEAR OF ANY OTHER NAME. I feel like I don't get a chance to name my own baby cause it's being taken away from me by his stubbornness... help :((()

My husband name is James Scott II, but we don't get along with his father. So we agreed on the name James Orman- Scott. (Orman after my grandfather)

My husband didn't want a junior (has a 6yr from a previous relationship). I asked him if he wanted one now he said no it's weird lol. I however Do want him to carry dad's name so I took one of my husbands middle names (he has 3) and my boy is now a Don like dad and great grandpa. 
My husbands pretty happy with it! Maybe find a compromise like that.
