TTC concerns/questions!

I recently relocated and my significant other is in another city until he can find another job. But we finally decided we wanted to TTC.. my period has been regular for months now and I planned a trip home around my ovulation.. but this month my period came 2 days late.. so now I'm worried it won't happen.. Does any have any tips for helping out the chances since I won't be with him on my actual ovulation date? Does your period coming late throw my ovulation off from when I was suppose to be?
