Non hormonal IUD- anyone have one?

Hey ladies. I'm almost 6 weeks postpartum and my doctor is asking about birth control. I was on bc pills before we got pregnant and they made me crazy (tried two different kinds), so I didn't want to try them again. Dr. recommended against the shot because it can worsen depression and I already have pp depression. 
In the end, he recommended a non hormonal IUD (Paraguard). Anyone have one or used to and can tell me about their experience? How does it feel getting it inserted? We're wanting to space our kids out 2.5-3 years or so, so I feel somewhat okay getting one in the meantime. I heard your periods get heavier, but that's the only side effect.

I had the iud and it feels like a few cramps while being inserted and feel like cramps for a few days. Take a few Tylenol before the appt and a few bathes after

I loved the iud.. but hurt going in and coming out.. but I highly recommend it.. after this baby I will be getting another one put back in

I had 1 for nearly 5 years and loved it.  2nd cycle day was super heavy. The cramps weren't bad at all.  I never had any issues with it moving or pregnancy.  My husband did notice the strings occasionally and it poked him during certain times of the month but nothing he complained about much. 
Once we are done ttc, I'll probably go get another one.

It's not for everyone I had horrible experience with it u just get insane cramps for like a min during inserting that thing and probably will spot a lot but for me it was bad I always had cramps mood swings My periods were sooooo heavy and half a month long 15 days in a row I would bleed and that's not mantioning I got pregnant 2 months after getting it pregnancy ended at 8 wks because it was in my tube cuz of IUD biggest mistake I made not getting it again u can try it but i don't recommend it!

I had Paraguard for a couple years. Any IUD insertion is painful and comes with a lot of cramping that first night. But after its in its in.

I'm the same way. Hormonal BC makes me depressed and crazy. I tried the hormonal IUD first because they said the hormone level was very low... made me hate myself and cry every day. So I had it taken out, and paraguard put in!

The insertion was a bit painful, but not bad. Then I had bad cramps the rest of that day and basically lied in bed and did nothing. Schedule it when you can rest afterward, in case it does the same to you.

It did make me have cramps every month, which I hadn't before. But that's what heating pads are for, right? And it made my bleeding a lot heavier. So I got a diva cup and that helped save on time and tampon expense.

Paraguard had its annoying aspects, but I never hated myself and that's worth soooo much. The cramps and the heavy periods both got lighter over the four years I had paraguard, too.
