FAM after pregnancy

I am trying to do the FAM now that I am not on the pill and nursing my son. He's 7mo. A few months ago I felt like I was having ovulation pains, and I bled for one day about a week after. Then a couple months later I had what seemed to be a normal period for 3 days. Since then I haven't had one but every now and then I have some cramps. I've been checking my cervix and have only had it soft and open one time though the CM wasn't stretchy.
