Giving birth standing up/kneeling? : /

Question

Did any of you ladies on here give birth standing up or kneeling? Ive read many stories that due to gravity baby pops out fast and less painful.... any thoughts? Thank you.

I've been a labor and delivery nurse for 11 years and I can say with confidence that (at least the first baby you have) no matter what position - the baby does not just pop right out. It takes a concerted effort.

I'm hoping to not birth on my back. I plan on moving into any comfortable position

Should probably have added - I'm a first time mum so nothing to compare it to, but for me it felt much easier to push in that position. I think gravity definitely helps. I imagine being on your back at that stage would feel quite unnatural. Also, just to give you the whole picture, I used gas & air during my contractions but had no other pain relief. I ended up with a first degree tear but didn't require stitches.

I was forced to push on my back while my son's heart rate had a decel. It broke my fucking tailbone. They put me on oxygen and as soon as his heart rate stabilized, I was able to get up and push on my hands and knees, which is what I preferred. I actually spent 2 hours pushing because he kept sliding back in between pushes. It was like taking the biggest, worst, constipated shit ever.
But yes, I still recommend pushing in any position other than on your back!!
With my current pregnancy, I'm having a water birth and I'd like to try squatting.

I birthed on my hands & knees, on the floor, leaning on the edge of the bed. It was the only position I wanted to be in & absolutely nothing would have moved me! During my contractions I perched on the very edge of the bed while my husband rubbed my lower back. I had to be induced due to bleeds & reduced movement so I was hooked up to all kinds of monitors, but the midwife still let me move around however I felt comfortable. Having to lie back on the bed for examinations was so much more painful!
