Induced at 37 weeks with Cervidil (LONG!)

Courtney💎 • Wife👑 and Mamabear 🐻 Pregnant with #2💛
Original due date was January 3rd. In my 36th week, I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension and all of a sudden induction the following week became a reality. I was totally panicked and not expecting this but had watched my BP elevate each week and knew it wasn't going to get better. At 37+5 I went into the hospital at 11:00am (12/16, Friday) for my induction. I had heard so many horror stories about induction and was extremely nervous. FYI my cervix wasn't dilated at all upon arriving and wasn't softened at all. As soon as we got to our delivery room I was told to get undressed and put on my hospital gown. All of a sudden it became very real that this was it and I wouldn't be leaving without a baby 😳❤. By 1:30pm the cervidil had been put into my cervix (it's like a small tampon with an oddly large string hanging out haha) and I had to lay down for at least an hour to let it settle. It had to remain in for the next 12 hours but I would be able to get up and go to the restroom or stand up after that. Fast forward through 12 hours of watching TV, playing on my phone and napping and it was time to check my cervix. Apparently it had softened only a little and I was just dilated "a fingertip". Greeeaaatt. Next step (at 2am) they said they would give me an hour to shower if I wanted to or stand up, walk around, take a break then they would insert cytotec into my cervix (a small pill). I showered and felt refreshed and was ready to move on. They didn't end up coming in to continue until 4am. The cytotec was a 4 hour process, which ended with "your cervix is softening but you're still only dilated to a fingertip". UGHH. By this time it's Saturday morning, 8am and I'm already getting tired of the process. The doctor on that current shift inserted a balloon to open my cervix while also putting in another cytotec pill. All of a sudden upon inflating the balloon I felt excruciating cramps and a terrible stomach ache paired with nausea. He said that's common and reminded me I could get an epidural at any time now. I said, yes please NOW. Haha. After waiting for the anesthesiologist to finish with the patient before me I finally got mine and it really wasn't bad at all. I could still move my legs and felt each contraction and wiggled my toes ever so often to remind myself I wasn't completely numb. They left the balloon in for most the day until it easily was able to be pulled out at 4cm. From there they began pitocin and it was all a waiting game. By Sunday morning upon checking my cervix which was still at a 4/5cm they were estimating a 75% chance of a c section because baby's head was stuck and seemed a little big to come through the pelvis. I was coming to terms with this and was so tired I was okay with anything. We used the "peanut ball" (peanut shaped medicine ball between the legs) a lot to open my hips to make room and try to give him a wider path out. I took a nap trying to prepare myself for whatever had to happen. The doctor came to wake me up around 2:30 and check my progress. I was groggy and trying to wake up when he smiled and said "you ready? It's time to push" and I PANICKED. What a way to wake up 😂. So I texted my parents and in laws and told them they better head to the hospital waiting room as they had been waiting all weekend for this. Husband came back from getting food and was shocked all of a sudden this was happening after being stuck at 4cm for so long. I pushed for an hour and a half, he wasn't making much progress when we could see his head but he wasn't moving much further. Within 5 minutes the whole team of doctors and nurses and anesthesiologist were in the room and forceps were needed to get baby out. I was terrified of these massive things but it had to be done. With 2 more pushes he was out and I was so relieved. I did have a 2nd degree tear and many many stitches but it's all so worth it. The recovery hasn't been very fun but he is the perfect little boy.
