Taking free stuff when don't need it

Is it wrong to take something from someone even if you don't need it?

Yesterday my neighborhood church was giving out Christmas food/plates to everyone in the neighborhood. I wanted to get a plate because I didn't see anything wrong. But my husband said no because we didn't need it an we had food in the freezer. He says he hate when people take free things without needing them.

So I guess I shouldn't taken the thanksgiving basket from my daughter school either last month. I guess I don't see nothing wrong with it. What you think glow? Some things i understand but a plate of food I don't think it's that serious
