is a C section that bad??

Question

Ladies, I have had three children and they were born vaginally. 
I have recently been told that I most likely will give birth via c section due to a low lying placenta. 
The thought of a c section frightens me to death especially the recovery after. 
Is it really that bad?

Mine was not an emergency c-section or pre-planned. We had a failed induction and opted to go with a c-section that day since my body wasn't responding to anything. I already had an epidural in place so there wasn't much prep to do before surgery. I will preface this by saying I'm a huge baby and anxiety-riddled. I was oddly calm through it all and the recovery was better than expected. There were challenges once I got home that I wasn't expecting - my bed was too high for me to get on so I camped in the living room for three weeks. I took the pain meds infrequently for the first week. My advice if you do end up with one is to try and start moving when they encourage you to, it really does help. Stay on top of your pain meds until you're ready to come off them, once you get in pain it's harder to get out. Don't overexert yourself!

I had a c section and I didn't have even the tiniest bit of pain afterwards. I never took a single pain medicine. And I healed pretty quickly too. For me it was an excellent experience.

I had an emergency c section with my first and I'm choosing to have another with this baby. It really isn't as bad as people make it out to be(ESP those who HAVENT had one) I had no complications and I healed quickly. I stopped taking pain meds after the 3rd day. I was terrified of getting a c-section because everyone told me I wouldn't be able to move, to laugh, to hold baby without the worst pain. I ended up in emergency c-section and woke up in no pain. They took the catheter out (didn't feel it), I went to the bathroom, and was immediately cleared to start eating but I wasn't hungry. I started walking up and down hospital hallways within hours, was discharged within 2 days, and the incision healed beautifully. While I felt no pain, I did feel very heavy, like I suddenly gained 50 lbs. That lasted about a week, getting better slowly each day, but it made me tired after only a 10 minute walk here and there lol. The scar still itches occasionally, which is super annoying, and I had an allergic reaction (also painless) to the tape they put on the incision. All in all, not anywhere near as bad as I anticipated. The doctor made me take the motrin for my uterus to heal, but let me decide not to take the percocet. I am getting a C-section for my next baby too when the time comes. It is still too early for you to know (my placenta moved at 35 weeks, but other complications caused me to get a c-section anyway lol). Don't worry about it.

I cried anytime I stood up for two weeks. And I'm no wuss. I think mine was worse due to pushing for hours before my section. But my incision did hurt for a month, like burning/tearing feeling.

How far along are you? Placentas often migrate away from the cervix in time.

You're in the May and June baby groups. Does this mean your 3-5 months along? You have plenty of time for your placenta to migrate. There is no saying you're "likely" to need a c section at this point

No. It's tough getting up and down; but you have plenty of medication for the pain, and as long as you have help you're fine.
