career change out of teaching?

Question

So I'm 18 weeks pregnant and a middle school/high school English teacher and I'm thinking after baby girl comes about a career change. My heart just isn't in it.

I can't really post it on Facebook, but what else can a teacher do? I was thinking about academic advising at a college, but anyone have advice or switched careers out of teaching? I have a bachelors in English and a Masters in secondary education.

Any advice? Things to look into?

I've been a teacher for 9 years and started teaching virtually, about three years ago. It's amazing to teach without the discipline, not to mention working from home. I work a lot though, we have a ton of kids. I honestly enjoy the job, it's even safe to say that I love it, but I don't know if it will be worth it to stay once we have another. Daycare for two kids will be half of my monthly income. My SO pays everything else, so it may be better for us if I go part time and work at night. Time will tell, but that is an option. Virtual schools are growing faster than any can keep up with, so the opportunities will only continue to grow.

I know I can't handle going back. I taught 3rd for five years and then moved to kindergarten. I'm currently on a leave of absence and have to go back in August. We are planning to try and get pregnant with our second baby ASAP. Then when he kids are a bit older I'm going to apply to be an aide in Special Ed preschool. I was working 7:15-6:00 every day and it was killing me. The demands in my district were crazy.

I'm a first year teacher and 12 weeks and I feel the same way sometimes. I teach 4th and I have such a rough class this year. It's exhausting. I'm hoping I can manage but I don't know sometimes. I will be due in July and returning at the start of the year, taking only 6 weeks. I'm nervous about managing it all 😕

What exactly makes you want to quit teaching? Could you change grades or subjects and see if it is more manageable for you? I am a special education teacher and have the same feelings sometimes, but then I remember that this is going to be literally the BEST job for raising a family having summers and breaks off. Yes, it's a lot of work to get your curriculum together, but managing the students is the easiest part for me. Could you maybe organize better so you have your activities set from year to year so you don't have to do much planning? I'm not sure what you're struggling with so I'm just making suggestions. but I'm sure if your heart is in teaching, you can find a way to be successful!
