Harmony Test - Continue pregnancy or not?

Question

Would you decide to terminate or continue? If you continued but didn't thing you could care for the child, would you let a family that was willing to adopt them do so - providing them the care you feel you couldn't offer?

Obviously this is all in theory and under the circumstance that your child tested positive.

It really depends on what it showed was positive.

Something like Downs Syndrome, continue. Something where baby wouldn'tlive more than a few hours, end it.

Really, I have no idea. I have an autistic teen boy. It's really hard, but there's still lots of love and happiness. But our life isn't normal by any means. I would have to do some deep thinking and investigating to make a choice with my husband as to what's right for my family.

If the test is positive for any sorta condition, if it were me, I'd reach out to parents of those kids. They will happily give you there honest take on all that's  involved, financially, emotionally, legally, and what to do when, what to ask doctors, etc. Special needs parents are often a fount of knowledge and really generous with support.

Depends on the quality of life the child will have. I don't want to bring a child into the world only for it to suffer and have poor quality of life.

The harmony tests are screens, not diagnostic measures. The % accuracy they report are very skewed. They are about 92% accurate for trisomy 21 but less accurate for other trisomies and much less accurate in sex chromosome anomolies. They should never be used as a stand alone to make any decisions either way. A CVS or amnio can give you more accurate info.

It's obviously much more difficult and complex too, but I would terminate even if it wasn't. If they want to adopt there's millions of children already available, I don't need to add to the mix. I feel responsible for that.
