cheating

So my boyfriend came up to me and told me he had to tell me something. It was then when he told me he had kissed another girl, and felt another girl. I don't know what to do. I have broken up with him since but we both agreed we need time. At first, I forgave him that same day but as time went on I realized I shouldn't put up with that. We have been together for 4- going on 5 years! Did I do the right thing? I'm so lost and confused.
