Ultrasounds? how many is too many?

Hey everybody!

My husband and I are pregnant! Yay! 
Second pregnancy! First was a missed miscarriage. Technically I am not high risk.

I had an Ultrasound at 6 weeks in the US (but the sac didn't measure 6)

Then I went to Germany to visit family for holidays. Two weeks later I had another US in Germany to check if anything has grown. Thankfully baby was meassured at 7+ weeks. Heard the heartbeat

Today, after another two weeks I had another one because the doctor (my mom's friend) said if we wanted to see how much the baby has grown then we can come again. Which of course we wanted. We heard the heartbeat again. I'm traveling back soon..

But now in another 10 days I need to get blood work done back in the US and an ultrasound is also scheduled. Which I don't know if I should do or not..

I am a first time mom, just trying to read some opinions. I know usually women get only 3 ultrasounds total if not high risk. And I already had three and I am only 10 weeks pregnant.

My husband is saying it's fine and I shouldn't worry but I am thinking about canceling the coming up ultrasound.

39 weeks and I've had 6, obviously won't get anymore at this point. I asked my doctor about ultrasound safety at the last visit, and he said some of his high risk patients get one every single week of their pregnancies and it's completely safe and has been for years.

17 weeks and I have had 4 and have another one schedule next week! Which shud tell me
Gender. From my research and understanding ultrasounds are dangerous for long periods of time not multiple short peeks. You're fine. I have had more bc of bleeding and complications. I'm sure if it was bad for baby drs wouldn't b so willing to schedule them when you have complications or when you're high risk. I wouldn't worry.

Honestly if they're fine giving so many to high risk mothers it should be fine for those not marked as high risk. I wouldn't worry too much about it but if you are bring it up with your dr.

I had 2 until they found my son had SUA at 20 weeks so I got 1 every 2 weeks until I hit 30 weeks then went once a week until he came at 37w4d. My son was perfectly healthy and in fact came out bigger than my last US showed. So over 10!

Ultrasounds are fine for the baby. My OB does them at every visit for everyone as long as the ultrasound room is available. I think it's awesome to watch the baby grow :)

I'm almost 21 weeks and so far have had 6 ultrasounds. Will be having another one on Thursday. I have placenta previa and have had several bleeding episodes. Every time that happens they have to check on her and make sure it isn't affecting her.

I'm 33 weeks and I've had 3. My midwife says I'll get another at 36 weeks. I feel like 4 is too much. Lol

There is no causal link between ultrasounds and true issues with unborn babies. But I believe that without being high-risk and without true medical indication, they are overused and unnecessary. Third trimester ultrasounds are unreliable in determining baby's weight and can lead to unnecessary medical interventions like induction or C-section. There is no magic number. But I tend to steer away from them unless necessary.

Baby #1: I was considered high risk. Had ultrasounds at 8w, 12w, 20w, 32w, 34w, 36w, and twice weekly at 37 and 38.

Baby #2: Ultrasound at 17 and 32 weeks only

Baby #3: Ultrasound at 9w due to history of miscarriage (for viability), 20w, and 28w (baby had been diagnosed with choroid plexus brain cysts at 20w, so this was a recheck). Did have an elective 4D ultrasound at 17w for gender.

Baby #4: Ultrasound at 8w due to history of miscarriage (for viability) and 20w. Did have an elective 4D ultrasound at 16w for gender.

Baby #5: Ultrasound at 8w weeks due to history of miscarriage for viability, and 19w. Did have elective 4D ultrasound at 15w for gender.

If it weren't for my paranoia due to recurrent pregnancy loss, I'd only get the anatomy scan at 19/20 weeks.
