babies first birthday

I want to do something special for my daughters first birthday. I just don't feel like spending over 1000 bucks for a party she's not going to remember. If I had a bigger place I would do it at home, so I have no choice on having to do it in a hall. I'm just all over he place with my plans. Some opinions will be great. Has anyone done a small birthday party for their kid? Or a huge event?
