ovulation tests

Does using an opk really help with TTC? Has anyone used them and hit jackpot first time?
I wonder because we have regular sex throughout the month and had a surprise pregnancy that ended in miscarriage after 18+ months of trying. Two failed months since M/c and this month used opk... now on 2 week wait!
