can anyone shed the light on difference between chemical and miscarriage ?

Sorry I don't wish to appear sillly but I had a miscarriage when I was 4 weeks last year but have seen a lot about a chemical pregnancy so wondering if I had that and not a mc ? Can any one help explain the differences ? Thank you x

A chemical pregnancy IS a miscarriage. It's just a very early one. And it's kind of a nasty medical term bc it leaves women feeling confused about what happened. In order for a woman to get a positive pregnancy test, the embryo has to have implanted. But then something happened (usually chromosomal issues) that prevented the embryo from developing much further.

At 4 weeks it would have been a chemical since it was so early, nothing would have shown up on a scan. That doesn't make it any less significant or heartbreaking, it's just a different medical term.

I had a chemical pregnancy and everyone kept telling me I was being silly for being sad about the loss. But the thing is a couple hours before my "period" came I felt immensely sad and couldn't explain it. Then a few hours later tiny blood clots. To me it was a loss. I really wanted that baby.

In my book, a chemical is an embryo that doesn't develop to the point where the heartbeats while a miscarriage happens after the heart starts beating. Doesn't make it any less significant though. A loss is a loss

A chemical pregnancy is when your body shows you a positive test, but the embryo never starts to form, so there is no sac, no embryo. On an ultrasound it doesn't appear as though there is any pregnancy.

A miscarriage is a formed pregnancy that is lost.

I had a chemical pregnancy last July. 11 pregnancy tests, even had it confirmed by a doctor. But then I started bleeding - period. Given my period was 2 weeks late. I mourned as a miscarriage (I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks that previous september) and they both felt like the same thing.
