How long will you breast feed?

Question

Breastfeeding mothers have been said to feed their child until age 4 or 5 or until they are weaning themselves. How long is too long?

I know I'm going to be attacked but personally any longer than a year is far too weird for me. 5 years old?? You're in school at 5 years old! If you are old enough to ask for the boob in a complete sentence, you are too old for the boob. 
Pumping and giving the milk is one thing. That way they are still getting that good milk, but once baby is no longer a baby... they don't need to be on the boob.

Again. Just my opinion. Bring on the pissy women

I just weaned my son. He is 4 months shy of 3 and he wasn't ready but with my pregnancy I needed to for my own sanity and health. It was a tough transition but we made it. I planned to nurse to 2 years, but he wasn't ready to stop so we kept going. Yes, he could ask for his "baba" but it wasn't weird or "disgusting". It is like asking for a kiss or a hug. He needed baba for comfort and as his mother, I was pleased and blessed I was able to give it to him for so long. Broke my heart to stop when he needed it after falling out of bed one night. But we got through it. Each child is different. I hope to be able let my next child self wean.

I went 18-19 months with all of my kids, I'll do the same for this one. I stopped, simply because I wanted my body back. You can't say what's "too long" really, as it's different for different cultures.  I think it's a hell of a lot weirder that people look at themselves and other women as sex objects, to the point it's "wrong" or "weird" to feed your own kid past a certain age... an age deemed acceptable by a bunch of over sexed adults. Kids don't even think that way until you teach them to think that way, they just want to eat and be close to their mom.

I will continue breastfeeding until my son is ready to stop or i will wean at 2.5-3. Beyond 3 it makes me a bit uncomfortable, personally.

My son is 20 months old and still nurses pretty  frequently.

I plan for a year, but willing to go to a year and a half. Really, depends on the baby.
