Is it that common?

I've seen several posts from women lately about being late with bfn still and there are always comments about how people didn't get a bfp on a hpt until 8 weeks or even 12 weeks!!
Is that really that common? I know everyone is different but that just seems crazy.

when i saw my ob last time i was four weeks late for my period. i told her i literally had taken test that morning and it was negative. she ordered a blood test and said "you'd be surprised how many people come in with negative tests but are 2-3 months pregnant.". i was not but she made it sound common lol
