Pumping vs breast feeding

My son is 6 days old, at 2 days he refused to latch anymore so I had to start pumping. I see a lot of women saying that breast feeding helps a lot with the weight loss, my question is, does pumping help as well? I would think it would but it doesn't seem to be doing anything for me
