Which do your prefer?

Question

First pregnancy.  I've heard from a lot of people that cloth is the way to go. I know that even if we do go the cloth route we will need disposable diapers for certain occasions though. If you vote please comment and tell me the pros AND cons of your choice. Also, if you use cloth, let me know the occasions when you've used disposable. Feel free to post adorable photos of your babies in either! 😍

We use disposable. Cloth seemed like too much work. We are lazy and don't want the extra laundry haha

This is our first and we decided to do cloth diapers. There were a lot of factors that led to our decision.

1. The price obviously.  I don't want to spend a couple grand on disposables, especially when the baby will be growing out of them.

2. Cloth really isn't that hard.  You remove the cover and then the cloth part.  As long as the baby didn't have a blowout the cover can be reused.  Then just toss the cloth part in the wash.

3. Laundry doesn't bother me.  Granted if I still lived in my old apartment where I had to pay $3 per load I may be singing a different tune.  I recently moved and have a washer and dryer now.  I am working on getting into the habit of doing one load a day.  It's not too bad as long as you don't let it pile up.

4. Disposable diapers suck for the environment.  I'm not a huge save the environment person but I like to do my part where I can.

With all that being said, we will probably keep a few disposables on hand for when we go on vacation or out and about for the day.  I haven't decided yet.  A wet bag is always an option.

I'd say just read a lot (I sure have).  It really helps.  Also join a few cloth diapers groups (ie. Nickies Diapers on Facebook).  They are great communities who can help answer questions you have about cloth.

I'll be trying out cloth. This is my first baby. I'm actually using a diaper service bc I don't have a washing machine. Even paying for the service where I am it's still cheaper than disposable. So I figure win win. No extra laundry saving some money why not ? Maybe you could see if you have a diaper service in your area and compare costs.

Cloth. A huge pro for us is that baby's bum doesn't get rashy. If he gets a little red I put coconut oil on him and he's good to go. And honestly, the extra laundry isn't even a con for me, and we live in an apartment with no laundry so I have to take everything to a laundromat. But I can see that being a huge problem for others. We used disposables in the newborn stage, largely because I felt the diapers were too bulky, but next baby I'll start cloth as soon as we pass all of the meconium. We also have used disposables when visiting home or staying at our camp. Hope this helps!

Disposable, I just can't get passed the idea of hand washing Poop, just can't do it. Not to mention the copious amounts of laundry, and the start up cost for disposable. I know it's cheaper in the long run, but to pay a couple hundred upfront to get started. I can't do that all at once.

I'm buying cloths for during the day when we are at home but using disposables for overnights and while we're out.

We used disposable with our first son (now 3) and will be using cloth with our second. 3 years of buying diapers adds up and I don't want to know how much I've actually spent on diapers. I'd rather do a load of diaper laundry every day and have money for other things. Plus, the bigger they get, the boxes come with less diapers and end up being more expensive.

Haven't started yet, but we will doing disposables for newborn stage and then cloth from then on. A big factor for us was cost over time: $2500-3000 for disposables versus $500 for cloth. I figured I was already going to be doing more laundry with baby clothes and this is only one more step per load, but completely understand why you wouldn't want that!
