Is it standard procedure to get a catheter with epidural?

Some ppl say they got an epidural with no catheter but i depends on the hospital. Catheters lead to bladder infections?

It's not on for Long mine went in after epidural was in and came out right after I delivered. Which was about 4 hours

You can't feel your bladder or control it, so if you didn't have a catheter, you would just wee everywhere. Mine was a bit stingy for a couple of weeks, like I had a little graze inside, but went away quickly on its own.

But don't worry, I'm prone to uti so bad, you can look at my girl bits funny and I'll get an infection. I can't even take a bubble bath. But I had a cath. With my epidural and I didn't get an infection or anything. Didn't hurt getting it in or out either

With epidurals, yes it's necessary.

It's true that catheters can lead to infections but you will only have it for a few hours. Once they stop the epidural and you feel ur legs again they will remove the catheter. There is minimal risk of infection due to the length of time it's in situ

I didn't have a catheter placed with my epidural. The nurse did empty my bladder once after the epidural was in, but I didn't have anything that stayed in.

I was 7 cm at the time I got the epidural and progressing fast so that's probably why I got away without having one!
