Nuchal test and gender? Plz explain

Nuchal test for down syndrome.right? 
The test they do at 10weeks to know gender...is that just thru taking my blood? Why do ppl say a certain test can cause miscarriage. This is my 3rd baby and im lost.

The NT Scan is an ultrasound that basically looks at the back of the babies neck around the spine. Babies who are more at risk have a thicker area(?) back there so the ultrasound usually shows that. My doctor is also doing the bloodwork for Trisomy and Downs that week as well. That test just gives you the percentage of the likelihood of the baby having one or the other. There is no risk in either or. Are you thinking of the Amniocentesis that could cause miscarriage? There is a risk of you were to go into that extensive testing. I think some mommies who are concerned after the bloodwork showing a high percentage, go on to get the amniocentesis but I know a lot who don't worry as the bloodwork can sometimes give a false positive and it's not worth the risk of amniocentesis.
