pump colostrum?

Does anyone know if it is safe to pump colostrum? The reason I ask is I am scheduled for a repeate csection. With my first baby they only had us separated for a few mins so I was allowed to breastfeed while in surgery recovery. Well we are now stationed in a small town USA. That apparently only has one OR and one recovery room. So I am now being told their is a chance I can be separated from my baby for up to an hour. Maybe longer if I am not doing well..... Due to scoliosis in may have to go under. I did with my first baby. That being said if my husband has my colostrum he can at least put some on his finger and give to baby. I do not want baby to have formula. But I am pretty sure if I take too long in recovery they might try to force it... what is it 2 hours?

I've definitely heard of people pumping colostrum even before going into labor(if it comes in early). It can come in handy to have it in case baby needs to go to nicu or mom is having a tough recovery. Make sure it is properly stored.

You can hand pump it. A few mums in my birthing group have do it as they have diabetes which can often delay the
Milk plus one has some other condition so they need to have a stockpile. They were only told to hand pump it though, not with a breast pump. Do you have a lactation consultant you can go and see? They will give you the best info and also probably give you the little baby feeding syringes as well as how to store it. You can probably also find tips online about the best way to do it.

Following. Im having a csection as well and might have to go under due to having Chianti malformation (my brain is positioned really low and kinda down in my neck so i cant push and may not be able to have anything in my spine because it also effects my spine.)

I was told not to pump, the baby needs to go on right away because colostrum goes bad very quick and that's the most essential milk for the baby. I was told not to pump at all in the hospital for that reason.
