Fire Department Car Seat Help!!

L
HIGHLY recommend going to your local firehouse to have your car seat installed or inspected. Our local firehouse had a special evening for this last night, but you can call and make an appointment anytime. I was skeptical if we needed to after my husband installed ours, but it was SO HELPFUL!
Here are some tips for those other FTMs and refreshers for STMs!! :
- the safest spot for the car seat is the back middle
- your driver and passenger seats should be an inch and a half away from the car seat; not touching it
- you should only be able to wiggle the car seat back and forth an inch
- DO NOT leave anything loose in the car while driving with your baby- coke bottles, diaper bag, purse, toys, ALL become missiles in an accident and can strike your baby! This is extremely dangerous. Buckle bags in, or use the trunk!
- baby need to face backwards for at least 2 years (confirm this- I am pretty sure she said 2 years)
- they will check for recalls for you on your exact car seat model
- they will show you how to install it on your own
- they will show you the correct strap setting for a newborn and show you how to adjust when they grow
- they will check if the canopy or bar for holding it needs to be up or down while driving
- *one more thing I remembered : you can't use the seatbelt if it doesn't click when pulled out- sometimes the middle seatbelt doesn't. You must use the latches.
Just wanted to pass this info along!! 👶🏻💗
