EPIDURAL!??

Hey ladies I'm 10 weeks 4 days with my first. I'm just trying to think ahead with how I want the birth to go I know I have a high pain tolerance so I was just wondering how they do the epidural and how it feels when you get it?? Does it even hurt considering the contractions you already have??

I didn't feel anything. My contractions were pretty bad and they were putting it in and I got a contraction in the middle of it. All I felt was a coolness spreading through my lower back and down and then nothing. I was in so much pain I was so glad I got it.

The insertion of the epidural feels uncomfortable but not painful, and way less painful than contractions. For me both times I got the epidural around 7 and 8 cm dialated, when I could no longer take the pain.  I personally loved the epidural but everyone is different.

I felt a little prick when they put the needle in but at that point my contractions were so bad that it was nothing. It kicked in within 5 minutes and then I couldn't feel any pain. I definitely plan on getting one with this baby as well.

The worst part was the numbing needle. They numb your first before the big needle goes in. It basically feels like a bee sting. Well to me it did. But like you said it doesn't even compare to the contractions your already feeling. And the relief is almost instant!

I just had my daughter a week ago today.  I took the pain of the contractions as long as I could. Boy did they hurt. My friend said she only felt the prick of the needle for the numbing.  Not me!  I felt it all! It was extremely uncomfortable. I could feel the cath going in. Now that's just me. I have heard diff stories.  When the med kicked in it was heavenly and worth it. I wouldn't say it's the most painful thing but I was uncomfortable during the process. I ended up having an emergency c section and the aftermath of that is far more painful than an epidural.

I've personally never had one with any of my 3 children. If you feel you have a high pain tolerance maybe just go with the flow and see how you get on? You honestly don't know until you are in that situation. What ever you decide...Good luck xx

I didn't feel it at all, maybe a mosquito bite? But it really is nothing compared to the pain of contractions. It kicked in within minutes and I was able to sleep through my 13 hours of labor. I'm going to attempt to go natural this time, but keep an open mind on the epidural as it helped a lot last time.
