unresponsive OB's office

Amanda
I've been seeing my OBGYN since 2014, during my first pregnancy. She's the only one in our region whose practice focuses around holistic birthing, and the only one in the state that provides pregnancy & postpartum services like yoga, breastfeeding support, nutritionist consults, and yoga.  Overall her office is a haven and she is just amazing.
Unfortunately, in the last year they have had a lot of upheaval with office staff and a huge increase in patients.  They've hired a midwife to take some of the burden off of the OBGYN, but they haven't adequately staffed the front desk.  No one answers the phones and any calls are routed to various mailboxes based on the nature of the call.
I ended up having a talk with the OBGYN a few months ago because I never got return calls on bloodwork results and painful menstrual cramping.  She subsequently fired the person who was handling their calls due to mishandling and some other patient filing issues.
The last appointment I had there a few weeks ago went swimmingly, and everyone was pretty friendly.  Our OBGYN spent about 45 minutes with us which really helped boost my confidence with her.
This week, I have left two messages - one for a prescription and one for an appointment request - and haven't not gotten a call back.  I'm getting so frustrated again!!
Does anyone else have to deal with an office like this with terribly slow response rates?  Any tips on how to improve it?  I'm tempted to just show up whenever I need something now but also really don't want to be further labeled as the crazy patient!
