The joys of being a young pregnant woman..
I'm 18, married, have my own home, brand new car and we have a planned baby on the way. We are overjoyed and can't wait until our baby is here.
My first doctors appointment was today and my new primary care physician is incredibly nice. But, she did say a few things that didn't settle well with me.
The moment I told her I was pregnant she looked very excited for us, even hugged me. Her follow up question was, "was it planned?" As if it really mattered if my child was planned or not. I told her yes and she looked astonished! As if she had never in her life heard about a woman my age having a planned pregnancy. Then she continued to ask me the regular questions and at one point asked how long it took for me to get pregnant. I told her, "not long at all, we got lucky"
At this point she gave me a weird look and said it was more than likely my age. 🤔
Now I'm not really offended by this, I know most people are curious and like to ask questions when they see people in my situation, but I just think her questions were a bit inappropriate, her being my doctor and all.
I'm not sure why everyone has to assume things about young parents. I think it's a bit ridiculous to treat all young pregnant women as if they are careless teenagers, when that's not the case.
So please, if you see a younger woman who is pregnant or who has a child, try not to judge her off your first glance. Chances are, her situation isn't anything like you may think it is.
