When to leave work

Question

I plan on taking my 12 weeks as allowed by Family and medical leave act. I work retail/service and have to stand alot and minor lifting. I'm 23 weeks now and fair well at work most days. I'm wondering how many weeks prior to my due date is should take leave. I thought 2 weeks but my sister had her first child at 37 weeks. I definitely don't want to be at work when it happens.  I don't even think I will be returning after the 12 weeks are up, my husband wants me to stay home with the baby.(I want to too)  I plan on breastfeeding and the small company I work for has no proper place for breast pumping.  I don't want to file any legal action against them. I can't make them build a room for me when it's physically impossible. Should I take leave early?

I'm in Ontario Canada and i get a year of mat leave, I plan on leaving at the end of April (due June 10th) that way I have the month of May to get ready for baby and to relax.

You could go past your due date. My sister delivered both her babies a little early (8 days and 15 days early.) I went 10 days over, he only came then bc I was induced. If you start your leave at 37 weeks and baby is overdue like mine, you'd be off work a month before baby was born. If you do return to work, it would be upsetting to lose out on a month of time with your baby. If you aren't returning, it won't really matter. I took off work about 5 days (only 2 actual workdays) before my due date.

Me work is letting me leave the month before an then I get 3 months after she's born. But I would leave when you feel ready! I'm 24 weeks an this is my third an I'm ready to leave now lol

This is my second, and like my first I will work up until delivery. I want to save all my days to use with baby. I am a special ed teacher so I am on my feet all day too, but I'll push through it until baby comes. This time is DEFINITELY much harder

I left on Thursday Dec 31, as Friday the 1st of January was a holiday. Off that weekend and leave was supposed to officially start that Monday when I would have been 38 weeks. Baby girl decided to come that Sunday when I was 37+6. If you aren't going back, I would just leave a month before the dd. That gives you time to relax and not stress, enjoy being lazy and watching trash tv, and finalize the nursery/clean/do last minute stuff.

If you're not returning to work for sure I would just quit at 30 weeks so you have time to relax and make sure everything is ready for baby. If you plan to go back to work I would wait until 38 weeks. If you went into labor at work they would work everything out for you and it's not like your baby would be born there. Good luck.

You're so worried.  Take a few deep breaths. One step at a time. You're Going to be okay.  Smiling. Request the leave it that will make you feel better and in terms of staying home after just worry about that when the day gets here.  I was taught one 24 hours at a time.  Good luck to you.
