If you had a short cervix in your first pregnancy, did you in your second?

My cervix isn't being checked until February 27th, so I'm super anxious. I've had those sharp pains in my cervix just like last time. And lots of cramping.

What does it mean to have a short vs. long cervix? Does it affect birth? I've never heard whether I had one or the other. Sounds interesting!

I have a naturally short cervix. It's about 2" (normal is 4"). I had to go on bed rest with my first for 3 months (irritable uterus, preterm labour too). She made her entrance at 39w5d. With my twins they noticed my cervix was short at 17w. Only went on bed rest a week while the ob got me into the high risk unit at the hospital. Got weekly apt and ultrasounds to check my cervix and because they were twins. Made it to 37w2d and had to be induced (tho I don't think I wouldn't have made it much longer anyway). I had an ultrasound after the twins while not pregnant and asked them to measure my cervix for fun, and they told me it was just over 2". So, it's naturally occurring. I am pregnant again, and I'm sure it'll have to be monitored, but I'm not overly worried.

Shortened cervix can lead to cervical incompetency and preterm labor. Happened with my first pregnancy and now I had to get a cerclage placed for this pregnancy. Basically your cervix shouldn't shorten until you're close to going into labor. I have been getting mine measured every 2 weeks since starting the 2nd trimester.
