Can I just say how sad that I think it is when other women shame things that are natural about the female body? Our vaginas are not meant to smell like a Febreeze bottle. Society has brain washed us our entire lives to be ashamed of our vaginas unless there is a big throbbing dick going in and out of it. Even from a very young age little boys are sheltered from anything and everything that has to do with women having periods. It is not "gross" for someone's vagina to smell like they are on their period. THEY ARE ON THEIR FUCKING PERIOD. Stop feeling ashamed and stop shaming other women for having a vagina THAT SMELLS LIKE A VAGINA. People need to educate their selves and others about this self hatred manifesting stereotype. I'm not saying not to take care of your body and try to maintain proper health and hygiene but if I'm in class and I'm on my period I'm not going to pretend I don't have a uterus churning and contracting to push out un-used placenta sack lining because Brain or Matt thinks it's gross. Get it together ladies. We are setting the bar for the further generations of women. I don't want my son or daughter growing up with this kind of enabling.

I used to have this concern. As I became more in touch with my natural self and body positive self I learned that all things normal are nothing to shame. If you can smell that I'm cycling, for the love of all things precious and good in this world, buy me some chocolate and sympathize in my pain! I'll do the same for you! Lol

If I can smell it, which I do, so can everyone else lol. I've even smelled other women, and my face was a solid 30 inches from their crotches. I really believe the "no period smell" is a myth, it's sort of like walking in on a crime scene, you smell that metallic-like secretions.

Every now and then, I can smell it if I've had my legs crossed for a while and I decide to uncross them. I actually asked one of my lady friends if she could smell it, and she said nope. She asked me days later if she smelled, and I didn't smell anything. So I guess maybe only we can smell our own?

I have good personal hygiene, and still get an odor. In fact, if I overwash, it upsets my balance and makes it worse. It was a horrible thing to deal with. I had several doctor visits and even had prescriptions to help alleviate the symptoms. I was literally embarrassed ever second of every day. I dreaded going to work. It's finally under control now, and I wish that shit on no one. Bad odor is caused by an imbalance of the pH. It is not a hygiene issue. While it is true some STDs can cause odor, often times it is simply bacterial vaginosis which is what occurs when the pH goes the opposite direction to what would cause a yeast infection. In fact, trying to mask or cover the odor with scented products often makes it worse. For some of us, even period blood will upset the pH balance of our vaginas. Washing with "normal" soaps exacerbates the issue. Scented feminine hygiene products, scented soaps, perfumes, douches etc.... all the things you'd think would makr it 'better'... can make the smell worse! It's crazy to me the comments in here shaming women for their natural body odors. Do you really think a woman with a smelly vagina hasn't noticed and tried "washing more?" Do you really think she isn't already self conscious about her odor? Do you think she doesn't know that anyone who smells it will automatically assume she isn't "clean?" Ladies-- please educate yourselves on your bodies and stop shaming one another. Yes, we have an odor with our period. Yes, at times we have other odors. At times things may get out of wack and you may feel embarrassed or ashamed. It is a plight of womanhood. Vaginas are not intended to smell like roses! End rant.

I wear tampons and panty liners never had a problem w smell I think my soul would leave my body if I smelled myself . I change constantly and always use bby wipes . It helps

I went to an all girls school and I can honestly tell you I CAN tell whenever someone had their period, only in the school setting though because we tend to sweat and overheat and that's when you smell it (even their sweat smells different)

I worry, even though I can't smell it. I use a diva cup, but I still worry.... there was one time in my freshman health class (I hadn't even had my period yet) that a girl exclaimed "I smell someone's p***y! Close ya damn legs bitches!" And even though my health teacher explained right then and there why that might be, I became so self conscious when I started my period.....
