Lamaze / Birthing Classes?

Kind of a silly question here but...what are your thoughts on Lamaze, child birth classes,...etc. (any of those classes you can take to prepare for baby day)? Are they necessary? Will I be completely clueless if we don't choose to do any of them?

I liked mine. Got to meet other pregnant women and it was something to do.

Ours was just a birthing class, they taught some breathing techniques but it wasn't a Lamaze class. We found it really helpful. A lot of it was common sense but I actually wanted the classes more for my husband than myself. I've done a lot of reading and research and he hasn't (which is fine) but it was really eye opening for him how tough labor really is and how long recovery takes, how important breastfeeding is. He's very supportive already but now with all that knowledge behind him I hope he'll be even  more supportive when it all comes up and I need help.

We did a tour at our hospital of the maternity wing, saw the rooms, what all the beds do (you would be amazed), what services are available for you and your spouse, met their lactation consultant and some nurses. That was a good thing. 
I would not recommend the birthing classes. I remember it being a lot of wasted time on things we already knew or things we didn't care about.

We just took a 5 hour labor & delivery class yesterday... it was long, but I thought it was well worth our time! We are first time parents & really have no clue what we are in for... any prep/info can only help is at this point! We also took a CPR / Save-a-Baby class (which I highly recommend for anyone that doesn't already know CPR) and we are taking a breastfeeding class & a baby basics class... it's a lot of time out of our schedules to drive down to the hospital for these (which is about 45 minutes from our house) but we want to be as prepared as we can be!!
