What do they do at an anatomy scan? What is it for? FTM!

Answer

You can find out the gender if you choose and haven't already done so. But it's primarily to look at the baby's anatomy and check for abnormalities. They'll measure all of your babies major organs, as well as femur, stomach, and head, and make sure everything is growing as expected. They'll check for soft a hard markers of Down's syndrome.  If your baby has anything wrong, this will very likely be when they catch it.

They make sure that everything (organs mainly) is growing properly and that they don't see anything alarming. They usually check for gender at this exam too if you'd like to find out!😍 it's a stomach ultrasound, NOT vaginal.

I had my anatomy scan two days ago. About an hour of lying down (fairly comfortably- it was nice and dark) in a room with an ultrasound tech. You get to keep your clothes on (just pull up your shirt and unbutton your jeans) so that's nice, haha.

I asked a lot of questions, but they're measuring for many many things so sometimes I just shut up and watched... then had a quick sit down with the doctor (after weight, blood pressure, pee in a cup) to tell you what he/she saw in the scans.

They usually will tell you the gender if you want/baby is being cooperative.
