beginning IVF soon.. single embryo transfer.. PGS testing?

Hi all, 
I need opinions on a couple things! 
I am going to start my first IVF cycle in a couple weeks! 
I have PCOS, had a LEEP procedure to remove abnormal cells on my cervix, so my doctor recommends a single embryo transfer. Which brings me to my first question: what is your opinion/experience with genetic testing? I am only 30 years old, no known genetic abnormalities and have never had a miscarriage. I'm not sure if paying the extra $6,000 for this would help me or if it's going to be worth it. I know that since we're only doing one embryo, we want to make sure we put one of good quality. Any feedback is appreciated :)

My second question is: WHAT ARE YOUR IVF SURVIVAL TIPS!? 
What is best to eat, to drink, to read, to DO! Anything! What helped you survive the IVF experience?

Well I think what the other posters doctor said about your body not letting an abnormal embryo implant is crazy wrong. That's the number one reason for miscarriage at any age, and being 30 chances would be about 30% and 80% of that 30% would be from a chromosomally off embryo. That's the whole purpose of PGS. I did PGS at 27, I think it's quiet shocking to find out how many abnormal embryos you actually make. My husband and I wouldn't do ivf without PGS. We did ivf 3 times and I only got 2 normals. You can keep transferring and it doesn't stick wondering why. PGS rules out those what ifs. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks previously and when baby was tested the chromosomes were off so I didn't want to do that again. It also gives you piece of mind knowing that your baby doesn't carry things like Down syndrome or trisomy 18. In my opinion totally worth the money

I would def say that PGS is worth it. We didn't when I did Ivf and I ended up needing a D&c from a mc at 8weeks (tested trisomy)
We moved to donor eggs and I was surprised that from a younger donor the amount of embryos went from 12 to 8 genetically normal.

I say it's well worth the money. Miscarriages are devastating.

I definitely think PGS testing is a good idea. We are on our first IVF cycle and we contemplated the same question. The doctor told us that IVF success rate without the testing was 30% and with it was about 80% we automatically knew it was worth the extra $6,000 at that point. I don't have a success story yet because I am waiting for my results from the test and than to transfer but I think it's worth knowing that we will transfer the healthiest embryo we have.

Also you could ask what place they us to do the pgs testing and set up a confrence call with someone there that know a lot about it and that could help make your mind up too then you can ask tons of questions.

We did PGS testing the first time and I had 2 chemical pregnancies and 1 BFN. Allwere FETs. I recently did my second round of IVF and my doctor said I didnt need to do it because I'm a healthy 30 year old. He said my body will naturally not let a chromosomally abnormal embryo implant. We didn't do it this round but we also implant 2 embryos at a time.

Weigh out your pros and cons. No one can tell you what to do as everyone's experience is different. My husband and I have no known fertility issues but he had a vasectomy after his 2nd child so that's why we have to do IVF/FET.

I agree you have to know full what your want to do cause everyone's experiences is different. Age it is nice you are younger but you will be surprised how many come back abnormal. We didn't do it the first two rounds and I wish we would have it will save time too. So people are lucky don't need it get pregnant first try. If you have the extra money it's worth spending in my opinion. Have you tried anything else or just going to straight ivf ?
