Why are so many pregnant women getting induced?

I'm not talking about the women that actually NEED to be induced. The cases im referring to are the women that have perfectly healthy pregnancies. I've noticed that it seems that a lot of women will be like oh I'm getting induced on my due date and there'll be no real medical reason. Why? Or there'll just be an induction just because. An acquaintance delivered last year before Christmas without being induced. But her dr was asking her if she wanted to be induced so she could have the baby before Christmas. ??? What! Like you can choose to get an induction just for something as small as you want your baby around for the holidays?? Why??

A lot of doctors like to induce especially around holidays. That way it is more in their control. I don't think it necessarily the women asking for it but doctors offering it and women accepting it. When you are almost 40 weeks it's hard to turn it down! Lol

The placenta actually starts to not function prior after 40 weeks. My doctor won't induce before 41 weeks. I had crazy complications bc my LO was lacking oxygen due to placenta not functioning right when I went into labor a day shy of 41 weeks. There is something called the bishop score that depending how u score before being induced it can predict if ur more likely to end up with a csection.

I read an article that said the last 1/4 or 1/3 of babies brain develops the last week of pregnancy (don't remember exactly but it's a considerable portion!) I personally wouldn't induce before 40 weeks without medical reasons. Every day the baby can spend inside the belly without being overdue is a plus. Don't understand why women will induce at 38 even 36 weeks. 36 weeks is considered premature!!

In my case I chose induction because I was already two weeks past his due date. I was placing for adoption and his parents were in a different state so it was easier to schedule so they could be there. I do want to go naturally with this one :)

Doctors do try to pressure you into taking the induction so they can control their schedule of births (some of the DRs at my clinic like to schedule inductions/ birthing babies around their off weekend because they share on call days). It's really upsetting because it completely does against lots of moms birth plans but many women won't go against suggested "advice".

There's no medical need to keep baby in there after 38 weeks. Not everyone's water breaks on its own. If cervix is ripe enough for birth you can be induce if you request. I had to have all 3 water broke. Usually babies that are born around 40-40+ have jaundice. The longer they're in there the more bigger they get!

1- daughter induced 3 days past due date. 9lbs1oz. Jaundice real bad. 
2-son induced at 38 weeks due to steady contractions. 8lbs 12oz. No jandice 
3- daughter induced 2 days before due date 9lbs 9oz.

I had to be induced for medical reasons. I'm sure there are a lot of different reasons for women to choose an induction. I'm hoping that at least one of my pregnancies will happen on its own. I want to be able to experience my water breaking and telling my husband we have to go and rushing around to get to the hospital. That probably sounds weird but I would really like that experience!

I have a friend who chose to be induced for both of her pregnancies even though it wasn't medically necessary.  She said she did it to make sure she could deliver with her doctor and not with whoever was on call.   I guess it's just preference.

Depends why type of induction, stretch and sweeps are a natural induction which isn't forceful I had one 3 days before my due date with no medical reason, proper induction is medically needed by a pessary or drip

My Dr prefers you to deliver by 41 weeks at the latest, but prefers sooner. My first 2 were induced for medical reasons at 39 weeks, my 3rd I was stubborn and really wanted to actually go into labor on my own. I became overdue and out of nowhere developed severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome and baby was in distress, my placenta was also deteriorating already, I needed a c section. In hindsight I wish I had taken my Dr's advice and go ahead and induce.
