Godparents?

Question

Are god parents really necessary if I don't believe in god and I don't plan on baptizing my children? My husband really doesn't care either. I can't really think of anyone who I would want my children to go to anyways. I'm currently pregnant so a decision should probably be made.

Me, and my 2 sisters and my mom (probably a lot of other family members) have god parents. But my family is catholic. I, myself don't plan on giving my children god parents but it's all up to you and your husband.

The main impose of Godparents is so your kids know who to go to if something bad ever happens to you or their father. Like if my parents die, I'll go live with my godparents. It's good to have them even if you're not religious

I would say not if you don't believe in god.

In my family we have godparents (Catholic) and then you plan for whoever is taking care of your child in the event of your death. In my mind, they aren't the same thing.

We aren't religious people either and don't believe in God however, we are giving our kids Guide Parents instead. Same kind of thing as godparents just without the religious aspect of it. My husband and I have godparents and we want that positive influence in our kids lives. It's all personal preference. I just want my kids to have someone in their life they can go to when they feel they can't come to us and I want them to have someone in the event something happens to us.

You don't have to have God parents but I would get a will or something drawn up as to who will care for your children. Of something would happend to you guys (I hope nothing ever happeneds) but you never know and if you don't have a legal place. In place your kids will just go to the stage you don't want that !

My kids have god parents but its a good thing to have a plan if something were to happen to you and your partner anything can happen. You dont have to baptize them just maybe have someone in mind who you trust to maybe take care of your kid(s) just in case.
