How does a midwife work ?

Do you pay out of pocket or does insurance cover ? 
How do you look for one ? 
Do they all do home births or at birth centers.

All depends on your state my midwife is through my obgyn office and delivers at the hospital so I pay through my insurance,  but they do have private midwives who don't work with doctors that do in home births if that's what you want but depending on them would determine how you pay some take insurance some don't

It also depends on the type of midwife. Nurse Midwives typically take a variety of insurances! My favorite midwife takes my insurance if it will cost me about $450 to have a home birth with the best midwife in town! I am so very excited! I got on her calendar even though there are so many unknowns and I am not out of the woods yet... She is busy and I didn't want to lose my chance to have my baby with her being my midwife!...

It all depends on the type of insurance and type of midwife. I am 33 weeks and I won't receive my bill until after birth. I started out going to an ob and found my midwife at 24 weeks. My midwife bill from start to finish will never be over 3,000. It is actually cheaper for me to pay straight up for the midwife than going to an ob that takes my insurance. I will still file and gear up for arguments and denial letters but won't hurt to try. I'm having a home birth hopefully and my insurance doesn't really recognize that. But I will try. Either way I'll come out to the good paying out of pocket for my care.

It depends each midwife is different. Some do hospitals births. I am seeing a midwife she does home births and birthing center births only. I'll be having a water birth at a birthing center my insurance covers it. I found her by searching up diffrent birth centers in my area and I seen she took my insurance.
