Opinions on children using phones, tablets, television, video games?Do you let your kiddo? Do you think its harmful?

My almost 8 year old gets movie la on weekends only and it's always been that way. She never even really watched then until around age 4.  We don't have cable, so she doesn't have access to commercials etc. She doesn't have a tablet and has an iPod she rarely plays, again only on weekends. I cannot stand parents who hand their child devices. Sorry, but just because they're playing an educational game, it doesn't make it right. I'm baffled by what I see as a nurse from parents who bring their kids in to the office. Teach them to sit still and be patient. When we got somewhere with a wait, my kid brings a book. And no I'm not old and agains technology haha. I'm 29.

Mine will be allowed to use a cell phone or tablet when he can afford it. I don't understand people handing there children phones worth hundreds of dollars to play with or shut them up. He can play with a toy.

We bought our son a tablet for Christmas. Its the Amazon Fire Kids edition. It's got all kinds of parental locks and controls. He's only allowed to access what I want him to. It's all educational games and books. I even put abcmouse.com on there for him.

I think it's a slippery slope when you give kids technology. I look back at my childhood and I am so grateful we weren't raised with 'screen time'. 
I want my kids to be kids. 
Also, knowing how addictive technology is, kids can't regulate that! Adults can't even do it! Lol 
I want to keep my kids away from it as long as I can :)

I think it depends what theyre accessing. Educational videos/games/etc i dont think is bad. Violence and nothing but shooting games and stuff i think is bad. Its all about moderation

I cannot stand how parents use phones/tablets to occupy their kids in social settings. The other night I was at a restaurant and the family next to us had 3 kids (probably 3, 8 and 10) and all of them were staring at screens and not interacting with others. Even at my grandmother's funeral - my little cousin was playing some game on a phone during the service!

I think educational screen time at home is fine in moderation but when you're kid is in public, it's important to teach them how to be polite and interact with humans.

My son will get a phone probably around the time he is maybe 10? Or when he begins walking by himself to school. He can use the family computer when he gets a bit older ( hes only 4.5) and i dont see the need for video games and tablets...he will probably want one at some point and i may consider it in like 4 years maybe 5 years but there will be time limits etc. Im not a big advocate of screen time. I love how amazing his imagination is and his imaginitive play. Kids need inaginiyive play...kids these days have so much screen timeand so little outdoor time and imaginitive play time

Yup my kids play my phone or tablet they are 8 & 6 they get 15 minutes. 20 on an extra good day. They aren't allowed to play it till 6pm as their day ends at 7pm so up till then they can lose play screen time. 
Tv they can watch during breakfast lunch dinner. If they leave the room the tv goes off and won't come back on until it is the other meal time. 
They will not be couch potatoes like I was.

Just make sure they're playing inside and outside more than they're on tablets and, video games, and tv. I don't thinknkids should have phones though until a certain age.
