No leaving state restrictions on felons?

So I'm watching Shameless and one of the episodes deals with the fact that a convict can't leave the state to move with his son and his ex wife because he's a convicted felon and on probabtion. I think that's really fucked up I honestly think there should be restrictions but that if the person wants to move for a valid reason that they should be able to, and at the same time move their sentencing to the other state. Anyway what are your thoughts?

Yes it sucks but thats the consequences of being a felon. You are still on probation so still under punishment. All your rights as an American citizen are not fully reinstated. You will have to face the punishment for your crimes. Yeah it sucks but at least you will learn your lesson and won't do it again. Its the same effect as leaving your kid home with the babysitter while your family goes to the amusement park because that kid stole from your purse. Yeah punishments suck. That's why they're punishments. A smiley face chart doesn't exactly work on a convict or felon.

I think it all depends on the felony and if they are able to bend the probation  rules.  Laws are different per state. But honestly,  don't get yourself in that problem to begin with and you have nothing to worry about.  Be happy you're on probation and not confined to a jail cell.... can you move your jail just because ?

So wait, are you talking about a prison transfer or a probation transfer? Because with probation that's a rule for everyone so they don't run. If he applied for a probation transfer, it was probably for good reason. If he's still in prison, they don't do prison transfers unless you need to be sent there for legal reasons. They don't take prisoners out of the prison unless it's necessary because its more easy to make a prison break when you're not in the actual prison. You also lose all rights as a prisoner. Everyone knows this. He should've thought of his child before he committed a felony.

Consequences for actions suck.  But, they are there.  Do the time on probation and if you need to move petition the courts to change the ruling.  I hate victim mentality especially for people who obviously screwed up.  Sorry but you don't get the same rights as the rest of us who followed the friggin rules.

FYI- my husband has a felony on his record from a dwi. He did his time, he made his life better, got a great education, got sober and now teaches others how to turn their life around.  It can happen as long as you decide to be a bette  person.  So proud of this man......

I think it should depend on the crime they committed and their reason for moving.

Depending on the crime they can request through court. I personally know 2 felons. One can't visit outside the country but he can travel anywhere inside the country but has to stay living in this state. The other one can travel anywhere he wants and move wherever he wants.

It's because they are on probation. After the probation period they should be able to move. But when you're on probation you have to serve the time.
