Starting the patch!

Today I went to the doctor and was put on the patch for birth control. I have never been on any kind of birth control and mainly I was put on it because the last period I had the cramps we're so bad I threw up. I've always had the easiest periods until I lost my virginity about 3 months ago. I was just wondering if the cramps would go away and if this form of birth control is very effective?? My mom told me she's heard that it doesn't work very well. One thing I find very comforting is getting my period like I don't have a problem with bleeding it's just the cramps that are the issue... well anyways thank you so much for taking the time to read!!!
