When does your dr do the first ultrasound?

My OB doesn't do the first one until 12 weeks, I have a phone Appt at 8 weeks to go over health history/hubbies health history. This is our first baby, and because we have a clean bill of health (no MC or chemicals in the past) they don't need to see us apparently? Wondered how your Drs do things. My only concern is not knowing until 12 weeks if something isn't right, I would rather be able to check at 8 weeks!
