sleeping through the night?

Question

Took my little one for her check up, she's 5 months.  I was told by the np that there is no reason why she shouldnt be sleeping through night.  She wakes about every 3 hours for feedings (ebf) and goes right back to sleep- rarely ever actually opening her eyes.  She said she's only feeding out of habit and I need to kick her out of my room as well.  She even suggested giving her two jars of food! I'm like she barley eats one before showering and going to slee.  I was taken back by all the "instructions" she gave me.  I even asked her why a recent study by the apa states babies should sleep in the same room until they are 12 months- she responded "everyone is going to have their opinions"

Any advice/ thoughts ? Does your little one co-slee in the same room and sleep through the night ?

My little one is 5 n half months and doesn't sleep through the night and no way will eat 2 jars he barely finishes one.  All babies are different

thanks everyone for you're responses-  much appreciated.😘. Baby is going to stay in our room for now until I'm comfortable with moving her.  I've been letting her cry out some of her "habitual feedings" (first night was brutal!) and she's sleeping longer lapses now which is great for both baby and myself. She's getting there and learning to better self soothe.

My little one is 5 months and we co sleep. I work full time now and it's better for our family dynamic.  She is formula fed since day one. She as slept over night since about 3 months old. She is now eating supported sitters gerber baby food about 2 times a day. She loves her highchair and solid foods have really helped with her need to feed feed feed. Remember every child is different.. but the solids might help ! :)

That's what I've been reading too! Our babies, 5 monthers, should be sleeping 10-12 hours straight through the night! That wasn't happening for us, she's never been a great sleeper. I read about Baby Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit and decided to purchase it. It makes babies feel snug and it tones down their startle reflexes. My baby now sleeps 8-11 hours, with only one feeding in between sometimes! This suit is available on Amazon for $40 and is totally worth it!! I read about techniques on how to get her to sleep on Pinterest, I highly recommend doing the same because the information is super helpful. BTW, she sleeps in our room in her pack n play, also I breastfeed and supplement with formula.

I don't know why sleeping is sooo controversial. Our 5 month old still sleeps in our room in the pack n play (it's out of necessity...she does need to be in her own room, but we don't have the space) and she was sleeping about 10 hours straight until recently when she's decided she wants to wake up around 3am (awesome). You do what works for you. If baby does ok in your room, keep it up. If you're keeping each other awake, it might be time to move rooms. We don't have the best sleeping habits in our house (my 3 year old HATES to sleep by herself). But in my mind, as long as everyone is getting an ok night of sleep...we do what we have to do.

My daughter turned 5 months on Saturday. My husband and I are very, very lucky that she started sleeping through the night right before she turned 2 months. She is exclusively formula fed and we started to wean her off the middle of the night feedings shortly before 3 months (she's also a big baby so I think that helped). We still feed her every 3 hours but for the most part her last feeding is between 11 pm- 12 am. My mom has started her on solids as well and that tends to make her fuller especially if it's right before she has her formula. We don't give a lot... maybe half a bowl at the most. Two jars of food seems excessive to me!!!

I would agree that she's night feeding out of habit. My daughter did this too, up every night between 1 and 3 then back to sleep. When she was 3.5 months old she did an overnight stay with my mom because we had a wedding to attend. I think the night in a new environment/scenario was enough to break her habit. My mom tried to lay her down at 8 but with all the excitement and new people to have fun with she cried so my mom got her back up and she didn't end up going down till 10. She then slept till 5.30 am. She hasn't needed a night feed since and usually sleeps pretty good at night. As far as moving her to her own room, that's something you need to be comfortable with. We just moved my daughter a week ago because I felt we were all ready. We all sleep much better now, not waking each other up all the time.

My baby sleeps in her own room, but that is because she is a loud sleeper. We have a monitor and doesn't pick up her loud breathing, but I can tell when she is awake. She used to sleep through the night, but has been struggling since she had RSV. It's all gone now, but she still wakes up I think because of habit. It's completely up to you and what you feel comfortable with. As for feeding 2 jars sound like a bit much for lo to eat. Mine will only eat a few bites and then be done. You are doing great it's hard being a mom and everyone has advice to give you just have to find out what works for you and lo.

My son is almost 5 weeks. He exactly does like your baby. Waking up every three hour as soon as I pick him he sleeps in my arms. Me n my son cosleep no problems so far.
I don't give him solids yet until he is 6 months old .
I am going to start with juices and mashed veg and then add fruits .
