12 week appointment. Ultrasound?

I feel like I am the only one. I see everyone announcing their pregnancy after their 12 week appointment with their ultrasound. I just had my appointment today and they don't do an ultrasound until 20 weeks...I'm super bummed. I was so excited to see our peanut. Am I the only one?

20 weeks? I would definitely not be ok with that! Especially since you're supposed to have your nuchal translucency scan between 11 and 14 weeks.

That's weird, I had my first at 7 weeks and every time I go to my ob they do an ultrasound. Maybe that's only in Singapore, but 20 weeks is crazy. How about the NT (nuchal translucency) ? That's done at 12 weeks to confirm the baby doesn't have Down syndrome. I know that's all over the world, so it is weird they would wait that much.

Mine is at 20 weeks as well. Each place has its own set of policies. I it's common to only have 2. The initial one at your first visit then the 20 week anatomy scan.

I think that for some offices the 20 week anatomy scan is the only guaranteed ultrasound. Especially if you have a low risk pregnancy. 
Some places do an initial confirmation/dating scan at your first appointment. Most offer the option of the first trimester screen around 12 weeks. And as mentioned, some offices perform scans regularly or even at every appointment. It likely depends on the provider, the office/practice/hospital system, and what's covered by most people's insurance. Your health/baby's health is always a factor as well, of course.

I'm 11 week and I have had 3 ultrasounds! Heard the heartbeat each time and received a picture. I'm really thankful that my doctors office is so "generous" with them. I'm sorry you have to wait so long maybe but a Doppler and record the heartbeat as a sweet baby announcement?

My dr doesnt do ultrasounds until 17-20 weeks either, unless there is a problem. It's usually an insurance issue, most insurances only cover 1-2 ultrasounds unless medically necessary for more.

Most do an ultrasound at 12-13 weeks to make sure the baby and its organs are all developing normally, because if there is a major problem then option of abortion is better to be given earlier. 12-13 weeks is also the best time to measure the nuchal translucency behind the baby's neck, which if too thick is an indicator of Downs Syndrome.

I personally think it's worth you doing a 12 week ultrasound for these reasons and your own peace of mind knowing that everything is fine with your baby now you're out of the first trimester. Maybe try switching doctors to one that will offer you an ultrasound?

Same for me , dr doesn't do ultrasound till 20 weeks & 34 weeks I could wait that long so I went to a 3D ultrasound place for a 2d scan my doctor also never done a fetal Doppler either and I'm currently 15 weeks.

I got an ultrasound every 4 weeks 🤔 I wouldn't be all right with that since so many problems can happen in the early stages of pregnancy...
