So abuse is part of his religion?! 😨

I had to go to my friends house for a project, and I was introduced to his parents. They were very nice people, and the mother had such a pretty hijab, so for real I was so jealous 😭

Anyways, later today my friend and I were doing a project we've been working on for a couple weeks now, I heard yelling and screaming from the parents and I was scared. I asked him what was happening, and he said "he's just disciplining her" and he continued to work on the project like it was nothing. I kept asking him if he was hitting her, and I guess I annoyed him enough for him to tell me that he was!! I was so worried for the mother, wondering if she was okay! I even said to him "you know that's abuse, right? and that it's wrong? And how your dad can get charged for that?! Why aren't you worried about the woman who birthed you?" Like seriously, I was freaking out to actually witness abuse like this. He told me not to worry about it, and told me all this stuff about his religion that it's okay to do this?? Something about, you can't hit their face, and you can't strike them for more than 10 times?? Like wtf.

This seriously can't be okay, it sounded like she was crying when he was hitting her. I'm on anon since I feel so ashamed for being too scared to do something to help her. Do I report this? Please help. I understand that people should respect other people's religions, but abuse should never be okay. I'm only 16, and I'm absolutely scared.
