lead poisoning

I need advice from anyone who has dealt with elivated lead levels in their children's blood. My 4 year olds level is fine. But my 15 month old was a little high. We had an home inspection by the health department yesterday and now we are so overwhelmed. We have a fairly large home 2800 sq ft, build in the 40s everything is  updated but we kept the original windows and doors, their very beautiful in good condition and give our home a lot of character. Apparently they think the windows and siding have an unsafe % of lead in them. So now we have to have our siding and windows removed by a certified lead removal contractor. It has to be disposed of in a certain way. The inspectors said that it cost a lot of money but there are assistance grants to help out with some or all of the cost. Today we called to get some more info to find out that 1) we don't qualify for any grants and 2) the average cost is $20,000 - $30,000. 😳 we could could come up with $14000 but that would completely deplete our savings account and will leave us in a tight financial situation especially with a new baby on the way. :( Ugh idk what to do. Has anyone dealt with this before? If so how much did it cost, and how did you come up with the money?
