High school kids bedtimes?

Question

My Hubby's son will be entering high school in the fall and he asked us if he could have a later bedtime.  Currently he goes to bed at 8:30 pm and no electronics or cell phone after 8 pm.  Sometimes exceptions are made for huge homework assignments or projects on an as needed basis.  What time do you send your freshmen aged high schoolers to bed?  Thank you.

I just wanted to say that I find it interesting that so many people have bed times for their high school aged kids (not meaning that negatively). I've never known anyone to have a bed time at that age. Especially for it to be so early.

I suppose it depends on what time they need to get up in the morning, as long as he's getting around 8.5 hours of sleep a night you can go from there. I'd think 10 pm is appropriate. My parents always said no screen time after 9 and I'd just read in my room until 10 or so.

Once I got to highschool, I didn't have a set bed time anymore. But I would still go to bed between 9-10 because it was so hard for me to wake up in the morning.

My nephew will be entering high school this fall and we up his bedtime from 9pm to 9:30pm lol but hey 30 minutes is 30 extra you didn't have before .

In high school my mom wanted me in bed by 10pm, but was fine with me staying up until 11pm to watch TV. My sister who's in high school goes to bed whenever she wants, usually by 11. By high school kids can figure out on their own when they're tired.

When I was in high school, I didn't have a bed time. I had a curfew. If I was home, I could stay up all night if I chose to but I had school the next morning either way. I was usually in bed by 9 but would play on my phone and stuff until later

I wouldn't give them a set "bedtime", but there should be a general time when they need to start heading to bed, if that makes any sense. My parents always told me i could stay up in my room as long as i wanted because i was old enough to make my own choices about my sleeping habits at that time, but i had to be in my room by 10-10:30. If they noticed my phone was distracting me from sleeping, i had to keep my phone turned off on the coffee table in the living room until morning. it worked pretty well.

My bedtime was 8:30 in high school no electronics allowed in the bedroom. I did have to wake up at 5 am every day to go to bible study. So I was glad to be in bed at 8:30 but I would probably make my high schoolers go to bed around the same time. Nothing past 9:30 I think.
